(Make Steve run a lot) for…

Every once in a while, I run to raise money for charity. It’s a fun and effective way to raise awareness for causes that are important to me, and organizations that are doing great work.

The Flint Water Crisis

It’s hard to believe that the water in Flint, Michigan, still contains dangerous amounts of lead in it since the disaster came to light in April of 2014. After running over 65 miles, friends and colleagues raised over $3700 in support of the United Way of Genesee County to help them distribute clean water to Flint residents.

Puerto Rican Victims of Hurricane Maria

America has always had a complicated relationship with Puerto Rico. Beyond annexation and disenfranchisement, the US government can now add the disaster response efforts during Hurricane Maria to their list of failures in adequately supporting the people of Puerto Rico. In October of 2017, I ran 60.5 miles and raised over $3700 for Americares, an organization with boots on the ground helping keep people safe, fed, and warm.

Untested Rape Kits

The number of untested rape kits in America is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands. That means hundreds of thousands of people have gone with justice, vindication, or validation after experiencing a traumatic incident. One of Mariska Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation’s goals addressing this disgraceful injustice. In the fall of 2016 supports of my effort to raise awareness for the campaign donated over $3200 to this wonderful organization.

Saving Our Oceans

From unsustainable fishing to rising sea temperatures and microplastics in marine life around the world, our oceans are hurting more than ever. From the fall of 2018 to the spring of 2019, I ran over 225 miles in preparation for the 2019 Brooklyn Half Marathon. In doing so, I helped raise nearly $1500 for Ocean Conservancy, an organization devoted to restoring and protecting the oceans.
